In the Press
“Furlanetto’s exquisite dynamic control, incisive diction and crystalline articulation enabled him to capture the individuality of each song. His deftly deployed tone colours and highly expressive phrasing invested them with meaning and character.
Winterreise is a musical experience like no other. Ideally, by the cycle’s end the listener will feel they’ve been taken on an emotionally harrowing and intellectually confronting journey. Furlanetto and Tchetuev’s outstanding performance achieved that.
”
“A towering voice within a towering presence, he narrated Schubert’s stark song cycle, drawing us into his 90-minute journey which mirrors life itself. With the minimum of gestures, shaped simply by his supreme command of his voice. There was the sense that every word was considered, every emotion measured and matched.”
"In the Rachmaninov songs, Furlanetto's line captured in shape the wistful melancholy, which is the essence of this composer, while Tchetuev dispatched the considerable pianist difficulties with deft subtlety....These were concerts that were deeply satisfying in sound, moving in expressive directness, and inspiring in artistry"
"World renowned baritone, Italian Ferruccio Furlanetto flew in to Sydney recently to make an appearance on the stage of the Sydney Recital Hall that was more than well-received."
"This is a glorious voice; intricate in colouring and richly sonorous. He imbues every piece with highly detailed shading and uses many techniques of vocal decoration to express mood and tone. For it is the mood created by these two Russian composers which is the lasting impression: the mournful inevitability of Rachmaninov’s Fate, contrasted against the hopefulness of his Lilacs; the desperation and despair of Mussorgsky’s What Are Words of Love to You? against the bleak realities of Songs and Dances of Death. Mr. Furlanetto brings and seemingly endless palette of hues and nuance to each piece, creating a lush and detailed overall impact. ... The program created a memorable overall effect and was enthusiastically acclaimed by the audience."
"Furlanetto is a wonderful sniger and I was captivated by his rendition of this lovely work. It was so expressive and heartfelt while not being forced or over acted. "
